Foraging Bird Toys for your Pet Parrot

Creative Foraging Kits by Caitec

Creative Foraging Kits by Caitec

The act of Foraging for a parrot in the wild makes up more than 50% of their day.  So foraging for your pet parrot is an instinctual behavior that should be encouraged.

Our Amazon Kiwi just loves to forage.  So getting Kiwi to forage was pretty easy for us.  Believe it or not, Kiwi’s favorite treat is a pellet.  A healthy treat…….that’s odd but not for our Kiwi. (LOL)

A great beginners foraging toy is the Barrel of Fun Foraging bird toy by Nature’s Instinct.  This toy is good size for birds from Cockatiel  to Amazon size birds.  Some birds do not know how to forage… you may have to spend some time showing them the ropes.  After a few tries of showing them where their treat is….sit back and watch to see if your feathered friend can figure out where their treat is.  Don’t get discouraged…..sometimes it takes a few days or even months for birds to figure out the process.

What makes foraging toys so great is that they may force your bird to really use his ingenuity to find the treasure or treat.  In parrot species like African Grey parrots, foraging can play a vital role in keeping their minds busy.  African Grey parrots are known for feather plucking and nervous behaviors associated with boredom so keeping them mentally challenged is a must.

If your bird has foraged before and is looking for a greater challenge the Creative Forage Kits by Caitec and the Nature’s Instinct Turn and Learn Foraging bird toy are great foraging bird toys to keep your feathered challenged mentally throughout the day.   Click to watch video “Kiwi” our Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot as he forages for his pellet in his Creative Foraging Kit.

Foraging for your bird whether as a beginner or a fully fledged expert, plays an important role in your feathered friends health and vitality.  Add Foraging bird toys to your bird(s) array of bird toys and watch nature’s instincts come alive.

Need help in finding the right foraging bird toy?……I would gladly help…..send me an email at

Hide N Seek Bird Toy by Caitec

Hide N Seek Foraging Bird Toy

Hide N Seek Bird Toy by Caitec

Caitec has developed a new foraging bird toy…..Introducing the Hide N Seek  bird toy.

Your Feathered Friend will have hours of foraging fun and also hours of bird playing fun as he tries to retrieve his/her favorite bird toy parts from inside the Hide N Seek bird toy.

The best part is…..add their favorite treat inside and watch the flurry of foraging begin.  Our Double Yellow Head Amazon “Kiwi” pictured above  was so enthusiastic when we placed his favorite treat inside (a pellet) that he just could not hold back any longer……he was playing for hours.

The Hide N Seek Bird Toy/Foraging Toy is re-fillable so when your feathered friend is done with these bird parts……there is a never ending supply.

Let the playing begin!!!!!

Oven Fresh Bird Bites by Caitec

Oven Fresh Bites by Caitec

Oven Fresh Bites by Caitec

The one thing you notice when you open a bag of Oven Fresh Bird Bites by Caitec  is the aroma of freshness.  The second the bag is opened you can smell the  home baked aroma…..and it smells so good!!!

Our birds just started trying Oven Fresh Bites by Caitec and they just love it.  Some of our flock took some time getting used to them….but now they are hooked.  With no added sugar, no artificial flavors or flavorings and no chemical preservatives….these Oven Fresh Bites are a must as a pelleted diet for your feathered friend.

Oven Fresh Bites come in three sizes…….small for parakeet to cockatiel, medium for Amazon and African Grey size birds and large for cockatoo to macaw size birds.  I would definitely recommend Oven Fresh Bites for anyone trying to convert their bird from a seed diet to a pelleted diet.

I always like to change up the pellets I serve my birds so they don’t get bored of one type of pellet….so if your bird is already on a pelleted  diet Oven Fresh Bites is a great change to your feathered friend’s already existing pelleted diet.

Playing with your African Grey

African Grey Parrot Jerry

Jerry the African Grey

Our African Grey “Jerry” is a real character.  He loves to talk, laugh and sing.  He is a rescue so he comes with many personality traits……that are all “Jerry”.

He is afraid of the dark…..sometimes.  He doesn’t like new bird toys…….only sometimes.  You can see he really has some habits that are unpredictable.  He’ll like something one day and not the next.

He’ll play with his favorite bird toy “the Surfin Safari” non stop day after day for weeks than won’t play with it for months.   He is like that….and that is OK because that is “Jerry”.

When we introduce a new bird toy to “Jerry” we always show him how to play with the toy… “you see “Jerry” you can chew on this piece of wood then you chew on this piece of plastic and don’t forget the vine balls down here”.  He finds this amusing but ignores us anyway.

Playing with your African Grey is a great way to bond with your feathered friend.  They love the one on one time and all the attention.  Try to play with your African Grey or any of your feathered friends everyday this will pay big dividends as they will become self sufficient and well adjusted companion birds in the end.

Here is an article from Sally Blanchard from Bird entitled “5 Ways to Play with your African Grey”.   These are great tips not only for African Grey bird owners but for any bird owner of any kind.

Creative Foraging Kits with Kiwi the Amazon

Our Double Yellow Headed Amazon “Kiwi” just loves to forage.  He is especially hungry nowadays.  He goes through those phases of being very hungry then back to normal hungry modes.  That is why he is an Amazon (LOL)….those who own an Amazon understand.

See “Kiwi” below foraging through his Creative Foraging Kit by Caitec in this video called “Hungry like the Parrot”
